I don’t spend enough time at Malibu Country Mart. Every time I go there, I am reminded of how beautiful the location is, not to mention the people you see when you’re people watching there.

This weekend, Malibu Country Mart’s Summer Movie Series begins! The shopping center encourages families, shoppers, Malibu locals and movie fans to grab their beach blankets and picnic baskets to watch fun, family movies projected onto a giant outdoor screen.

Saturday, June 11th: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure

Saturday, June 25th: Troop Beverly Hills

Saturday, July 2nd: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

This is a beautiful, calm place to bring your children. Swings and a sandbox are nearby if they somehow get bored! Parking is available all around Malibu Country Mart.

The movies chosen should appeal to children who are a little bit older. I watched Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure last summer with my kids who were 8 and 10 at the time. They laughed their little heads off, even if every other joke was a little too…mature…and didn’t register with them. On the other hand, they weren’t big fans of Pee Wee Herman. It wasn’t personal – they just hated his laugh. Blasphemy, I say. Your kids will probably appreciate him more…

Movies will begin at approximately 7:45 PM. Taverna Tony’s, Mr. Chow Malibu and Tra di Noi will also be open for guests to order menu items to enjoy during the films.

California Strawberry Festival 2016 – Win Tickets!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. Congratulations to Shawna T!

Once again, you can celebrate all things strawberry at the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard, returning this year on May 21 and 22. I’m giving away a set of four free tickets!

The California Strawberry Festival is a huge annual event that takes place at College Park in Oxnard. The festival is so huge and awesome – with over 50 food booths, contests, rides and attractions, over 200 Arts & Crafts vendors, concerts, celebrity chef demonstrations, and family fun – that organizers have set up free shuttle rides from local parking locations to save you money and hassle when getting there. Check out this list of shuttle stops before you go.

This year’s event will feature Strawberryland For Kids, an oasis where rides and attractions, contests, and meet & greets with
the popular Strawberry Shortcake character appeal to the young at heart. The Jest In Time Theater presented by Smart & Final hosts live shows throughout the day and the Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest encourages infants up to four years of age to participate to win prizes.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for kids 5-12. (Free for 4 and under.) Note – food booths, where you get your strawberry funnel cake and strawberry beer, take cash only.

This Friday at 6pm, Olivia Rox will join the community and give an intimate performance at The Garage at the Agoura Hills Rec Center. The Agoura Hills teen made it all the way to the top 10 of American Idol this season. In an interview with the Agoura Hills Acorn, Rox said that she is “stoked” about this free welcome home event.

Doors open at 6pm and teens and families can hang around in The Garage where there are games and a great space to just hang out. Light appetizers and drinks from local restaurants will be served. Rox will give a short performance around 7pm and there will be special appearance by jazz musician Warren Hill (Olivia’s dad).

Parking is available in the rec center lot but if that fills, the city will run a shuttle service to parking down the hill in the City Hall/library lot.
