Dunkin’ Donuts in Town

It’s no secret that I am a huge Dunkin’ Donuts fan, and that I’m overjoyed to have a Dunkin’ Donuts location move in right here at Lindero Canyon and Thousand Oaks Blvd. (They’ve been here for a few months now and I will confess I’ve only walked there once but I’ve driven plenty of times.) I actually stood in line at 4:00 am waiting for it to open with a girlfriend who was crazy enough to drive there with me that early morning!

Are you as excited about Dunkin’ Donuts being here as I am? Actually, even if you’re not local, but you have a Dunkin’ Donuts near you, you should be excited.

New Location for Watermelon Festival August 13 & 14 [Win Tickets!]

Southern California is a great place to celebrate food. Coming up on August 13 & 14, the Watermelon Festival will take place at the Hansen Dam Soccer Field – it’s a 54-year-long tradition!

I have to confess, I hadn’t heard of this one before, but that’s just another instance of being a tourist in my own town, something that I just love about Los Angeles. There’s always something new to discover, even if you’ve lived here for 20 years!

As with other food festivals, the Watermelon Festival is a great family event. The two-day fair will feature free watermelon, food, carnival rides, games, contests, live entertainment, and a Kids Zone.

And of course, there will be watermelon related hijinks! There’s a carving contest, a seed spitting contest, and a watermelon relay. You can also stroll the booths at the arts & crafts marketplace. Live entertainment will include a Battle of the Bands and the Melon-Dramatic Puppet Theater.

Our family is looking forward to checking out this new-to-us event. As you can see, my kids really like watermelon!

California Strawberry Festival 2016 – Win Tickets!

Once again, you can celebrate all things strawberry at the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard, returning this year on May 21 and 22. I’m giving away a set of four free tickets!

The California Strawberry Festival is a huge annual event that takes place at College Park in Oxnard. The festival is so huge and awesome – with over 50 food booths, contests, rides and attractions, over 200 Arts & Crafts vendors, concerts, celebrity chef demonstrations, and family fun – that organizers have set up free shuttle rides from local parking locations to save you money and hassle when getting there. Check out this list of shuttle stops before you go.

This year’s event will feature Strawberryland For Kids, an oasis where rides and attractions, contests, and meet & greets with
the popular Strawberry Shortcake character appeal to the young at heart. The Jest In Time Theater presented by Smart & Final hosts live shows throughout the day and the Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest encourages infants up to four years of age to participate to win prizes.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for kids 5-12. (Free for 4 and under.) Note – food booths, where you get your strawberry funnel cake and strawberry beer, take cash only.
