Minecraft Event at Club Nokia This Saturday, March 29

Meet the stars of The Video Game “Minecraft” LIVE at Club Nokia on Saturday, March 29th!

I didn’t know that Minecraft had stars, but if you have a Minecraft fiend draped around your house with his or her face stuck into an iPad watching YouTube videos of other people playing Minecraft for hours on end, you at least might understand this. Okay, if YOU don’t understand this, then maybe your kid does.

In fact, I got this pitch for this event and I didn’t understand it. I mean, read on:

“Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet the stars of The Video Game “Minecraft” – Bajancanadian, Jeromeasf, Deadlox, Skydoesminecraft, Huskymudkipz,Minecraftuniverse and Ssundee are coming to Club Nokia on Saturday, March 29th for a special In-Game Q&A, interaction and meet & greet! Debut musical performance by Minecraftuniverse and musical performance by Skydoesminecraft!”

The only parts of this message that compute are “rare opportunity” and “musical performance.” I called my 8-year-old son up to my office and had him read it. He nodded his head and said “Oh yes, those are great Minecrafters. Can we go to this?”

And that, my friends, is why you will see this 42-year-old suburban PTA mom at the Team Crafted event this weekend at Club Nokia, a place I have never been and have no desire to ever visit (unless, say, Indigo Girls were to perform there) because it’s east of Calabasas and ugh, parking.

The things we do for our children. Check it out if you have a Minecraft-obsessed kid (or if you ARE one – no judgement here).

Spring Looks at The Children’s Place

It’s spring for real, and here are some flowers to prove it, if you don’t believe it based on my recent garden updates! These flowers were spotted around the Lake Lindero neighborhood in Agoura Hills.

It is the perfect time to stock up on kids’ clothes for spring, too. I checked out the newest looks for spring at The Children’s Place last week, and aside from leaving there wishing I had a little girl to dress (and also that they made floral jeggings for adult women) I was so happy with the fashions I found.

Durability is the most important quality to me when I am shopping for clothes for my boys. If you asked them directly, though, they would say comfort and “coolness” are also very important. So I stick with elastic waistbands for pants, and “cool” prints and styles for shirts. The Children’s Place is where I often shop for them, because the durability to affordability ratio is right up my alley.

I snatched up adorable plaid shorts, polo shirts, and khaki’s for my boys and I couldn’t resist this adorable outfit for my niece.

There’s always a great sale at The Children’s Place, so it’s one of my first stops  at the Oaks mall, and now there is a store on Ventura Blvd. in Tarzana, too!

Happy spring! Here’s to not putting holes in the knees of the pants the first time they wear them…

Vegetable Garden: Week 4

IMG_1786This is where anyone who comes to this site regularly is saying “You’re kidding. Not another vegetable garden post. Doesn’t anything else happen in Agoura Hills?”

Well of course, silly. There’s a lot going on up in this joint, but I’m obsessed with my vegetable garden, so that’s that.

Week 4:

The fava beans are okay – two of the plants have flowers and the rest have yellowing leaves. They are all getting taller. I am wondering if I need to pinch the flowers off to encourage the plant to grow bigger so the beans will fruit when they are supposed to. And maybe I need to fertilize the yellowing plants.

The kale is getting taller. The change is hard to see. The mystery bulbs are getting taller too.

And the rosemary bush is just sitting there, looking fine, but not getting any bigger.

Meanwhile, I’ve been reading about vegetable gardening in a book and online. I discovered that you can luck out and get free seeds, seedlings, or cuttings from people on Craigslist and Freecycle, so I found a lady who was giving away cuttings from a passion fruit vine, and now I have four jars of cuttings on my kitchen counter. If they grow roots, I’ll plant them…somewhere.
