It’s Like the X-Games of Basketball

Last year a couple of Harlem Globetrotters came to my son’s school to give a cool demonstration.  My son talked about it for days.  Imagine how thrilled he is now that the team is back in Los Angeles for a weekend this month!

It’s a performance, a basketball game, and a magic show all in one.  There are three players who are over 7 feet tall, so it’s also a pageant of human extremes.

Plus, this year there is a woman on the team, the ninth in the 86-year history of the Globetrotters.  Fatima “TNT” Maddox is the first lady player since 1993.  Time to show your little girl an example of yet another thing she can be when she grows up.

Free Chocolate!

Yeah, that’s what I said.  Free chocolate – for the lucky winner of my Tintin / Cost Plus chocolate bar giveaway.  I love Cost Plus and I love chocolate, so when the PR team offered a set of the chocolate bars pictured above for me to give away on this here blog, I didn’t even blink before saying yes.

But then I realized I had to test the chocolate first.  You know, to make sure it’s a worthy product to give to one of you.  I enlisted my family to help me, and here are the results:

First place:  The dark chocolate with sea salt is the hands-down winner

Second place:  Milk chocolate was my husband’s favorite

Third place:  Milk chocolate with hazelnut and almond pieces was a tasty treat

Fourth place:  The dark chocolate with cocoa pieces has a very strong flavor so it wasn’t anyone’s favorite but if you are a dark chocolate lover you will enjoy this

Groceries, Schmoceries. Just Get a Houseguest!

This week, and for much of the summer, we have friends staying with us. They are the mom and dad of a family of four – their little boys are staying with family for the summer, and the mom got a job close by, and they are between homes, so what the heck? What are friends for, right?

Well, turns out friends are for cleaning my kitchen, taking out the garbage, hanging out with my while I do my thrice daily stretching routine, accompanying me to events, watching my kids tonight so I can go out with my husband for our 9th wedding anniversary, and for picking up groceries. I’ll tell you what – it is AWESOME. I highly suggest getting some houseguests for when you are feeling extra overwhelmed. All they want in return is a place to sleep and free access to the country club bar.

Alas, they won’t be here forever, so I’ll eventually have to go grocery shopping again. For people like KIM B. – who won the Albertsons gift bag giveaway – they can put it off at least another day because there is a full dinner in that there bag. Thank you to everyone who entered!

When I do a full shopping trip at Albertsons I will tell you alllll about it.
