Beat the Heat at Whole Foods Oxnard’s Beer Tasting Party

In Oxnard, the Whole Foods has a bar inside it made out of an Airstream trailer. Yeah, that’s how they roll. (Or not, since that would jostle the drinks.)

The whole store is open, bright, and breezy, but the bar is super cool. When I went there for the store opening, it really was the place to be.

Since then the store has hosted many cool live events, including trivia night inside the little bar. This weekend there will be a special beer tasting featuring Figueroa Mountain Brewery and Margerum Wine Co.

Enjoy a sample and join in on the celebration with special food pairings and a festive atmosphere.

I’ve been to enough Whole Foods events now that I can tell you without a doubt that this will be delightful. And it’s Oxnard, so it’s bound to be 10 degrees cooler there.

Rainy Day Activity: French Wine Tasting and Art Exhibit at Whole Foods in Venice!

Do you ever choose a book by its cover? How about buying wine by its label? I’ll confess: I do it all the time. In fact, sometimes I pick wine by the name. If I’m heading to my book club meeting and the book is, say, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and I see a wine that is called “Dementor,” I’m totally buying that one. (As long as it’s under $10. Hey, a lady has standards.)

You are in a beauty contest every day of your life
This artwork was created by a wine label designer for Whole Foods Market. Yes, it’s weird. But what if you were drinking wine and looking at it? It might still be weird, but it would be wine and weird.

Tomorrow evening (March 5) Whole Foods in Venice is hosting a wine tasting and art exhibit party featuring his works:

Join us for a fantastique wine tasting featuring samples of spectacular, value-priced French wine paired with petit fours. While you sip enjoy the art of the wine label designer and Germany-based French artist Gildas Coudrais. He brings a unique touch to wine labels and his artwork gets close to the aesthetics of pop culture. His work is reminiscent of billboards on the sunset strip but remains loyal to the European tradition. $10 per person, proceeds benefit the Whole Planet Foundation.

So, let’s recap:
wine tasting
petit fours
-only $10
-you get to look at weird art
-plus you get to go to Venice, a hotbed of weird art. I know it might be raining, so you’d stay inside anyway, why not be inside a Whole Foods drinking wine and eating petit fours?

Much to my delight, the wines being featured are under $10 per bottle, and the labels are gorgeous. I don’t even mind weird labels on wine. But I love this one:

Chantebelle-Bdx-Sens-Sauvignon-SilverChantebelle Sauvignon Blanc

$9.99/750 ml

A bright and brisk beauty with crisp citrus flavors, it’s sensational start to the evening, especially with chilled shrimp and goat cheese!

I can’t wait to try. You should come:

For new mothers, or mothers who are new in town, parenting at home as a full-time job can be a lonely, isolating experience. The best way to find new friends who are living the same life and can at least commiserate is to join a club or group of other new, or new-to-town moms.

Lucky for all of us, our area has a chapter of MOMS Club International.

MOMS Club is an international organization created for all at-home mothers. This club is a great way to meet other moms who share your interests and concerns. There are many enriching activities offered for you and your children. We offer: Weekly age-appropriate play groups, monthly Mom’s Night Out, monthly field trips, community service, holiday celebrations, and much, much more.

MOMS Club of Westlake Village serves the areas of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Oak Park. Everyone is free to attend two meetings before officially joining. Membership fee is $30 per year. If you are interested in joining MOMS Club, please email Hyacinth Kearney at hp********@***il.com.

This month, MOMS Club of Westlake Village is holding their first annual diaper drive as a service project. During the month of May, they are collecting diapers (larger sizes most needed) and wipes – you can contact me to find out where to drop them off. Or, you can meet the MOMS Club members tonight at their wine-tasting fundraiser party at J. Hamilton Wines in Westlake Village – $25 per person includes a tasting of six wines, plus appetizers. Proceeds will benefit Help a Mother Out, an organization that collects diapers and funds to purchase diapers for underserved families in the Los Angeles area.
