I’m Taking the EVER Skincare 30 Day Challenge

The EVER Skincare kit is made up of four steps to take morning and night, like a workout for your skin. I’m going to use it morning and night for 30 days to get in the habit of taking care of my skin.

EVER Skincare is the recently launched line of skincare products with natural ingredients from the same company that sells Stella and Dot jewelry. EVER Skincare products are sold through reps, known as “specialists,” who are trained in how to use the products and answer your questions. I met Bianca Sanderson at an event recently. She’s a local business woman who found a special talent representing products she loves, and turned that passion into a business that helps support her family while also allowing her to have a flexible schedule while her sons are still school-aged. I love hearing stories like that!

Bianca demonstrated the EVER Skincare regimen for me, patch testing the products out before I committed to the challenge. Each product is made of natural ingredients and smells and feels great on my skin.

What is the 30 day challenge?

EVER challenges you to follow the steps, each morning and night, for 30 days. You need to stick to the regimen to see the full effect on your skin. After all, to stay in shape you need to keep working out and eating healthy, right? Well, your skin is the same way: unless you take care of it, your skin will age faster!

To help demonstrate the change, I took close up photos of my face that I will compare to photos I take 30 days later. Here’s a ridiculous video of me telling you why I am doing this:

So. Every night I have to use the following products:

1. Cleanse: Since I have dry skin, I use the LUMINOUS Cleansing Balm, which feels like a cream or ointment, and rinses off feeling smooth and silky vs. squeaky and dry.

2. Exfoliate: The REVEAL Biomimetic Peel Pads gently remove old dead skin cells. Since my skin is very sensitive, I don’t use this every time. I’ll be building up to it gradually.

3. Treat: YOUTHFUL Quattro Peptide Face & Eye Serum goes on next to treat fine lines and wrinkles (and for you younger types, keeps your skin youthful).

4. Moisturize and protect: In the morning I use Daylight moisturizer with SPF, and in the evening a more intense cream called Hydralift. When my skin is feeling especially dry in the morning I can use a thin layer of Hydralift and then use Daylight for the protection from the sun.

Here is another ridiculous video in which I point out for you the things I find especially cool about the products:

I don’t mind doing all the steps, unless I’m rushing, or exhausted, and I don’t feel like dealing with it. But I am committed to the process, and I want to take care of my skin. Stay tuned as I report my progress! And if you are curious about EVER Skincare, check them out and tell Bianca I sent you!

Chiquita Banana Sing-off – Win $5,000!

Over the last decade I’ve sacrificed my dignity online for money, exposure, and favors for friends. I’m talking mostly bad photos being posted of me online, or self-deprecating stories that turn into essays that make another mother feel better, that kind of thing. I dabbled in public speaking and YouTube for a little while, but I am most comfortable at the computer and keyboard, rattling away about the things I like.

Chiquita(1)Something new came along and I find myself contemplating a sacrifice of dignity in exchange for…bananas.

Not just any bananas, though. These bananas are going to Manna in Thousand Oaks to help feed hungry people in our area. Yes, they are out there, even in The Bubble.

Basically the deal is, Chiquita Banana is sending a case of bananas to Manna in return for me telling you about this contest. For many of you, this will be lots of fun, and a chance to win up to $5,000!

It’s the Chiquita Banana sing-off! Make a music video singing the classic Chiquita Banana jingle and you’re entered. Entries will be judged NOT on Facebook likes or re-tweets (thank goodness) but by creativity, enthusiasm, and fun. How could I resist?

It’s easy to enter: visit the Chiquita Banana sing-off website, register to enter, then choose music video, sing-along, or banana-gram. I was planning to do a dramatic reading of the Chiquita jingle because I can’t really sing, (see, sacrificing my dignity!) but I opted instead for a banana-gram. Agoura Hills Mom, represent! You can see the videos that other people have made and vote for your favorites in the gallery. Some people are so creative!

I know I have some talented readers out there. You can participate if you live in the US or Canada (except Quebec) and you are 13 or older or you get your parent’s permission. The deadline to enter is May 29, so get creative and enjoy those bananas!

And if you would like to donate food to Manna, the information about how to do that and what foods they accept is here.

Try Giving Memories Instead of Things – Slideshows by Bari

A slideshow of memories makes a lasting, meaningful gift

christmas dinner in the 80's

Do the people in your life really need that box of cheap plastic crap that you can get on sale today for $4.99? Do you really want them to open a gift that they are going to forget the moment you walk out the door?

Think about the moments you remember – the time spent together, the milestones, the shared experiences. Even if you are far away you can make some smile, over and over again, with a thoughtfully designed photo slideshow.

Bari of Slideshows by Bari will take your photos (and even video clips) and compile them into an artful slideshow that you can show at events or send to loved ones across the miles. She made one for me so I could show it to you here: a set of memories for my grandmother (my “Nana”), who lives back in CT near most of the rest of my family. Nana has been a role model of a strong woman for me for my entire life. She had five kids and when they were old enough she started working in City Hall in my hometown and significantly influenced the culture and infrastructure of that city for decades. I remember sitting at her desk at City Hall when I was little (I don’t have a picture for that), and receiving gifts from her travels all over the world. I never knew that women were disadvantaged in any way. This is what I thought a woman was.

Nana is 93 now and doesn’t fly anymore so she hasn’t been out to visit us in several years. Our family does our best to FaceTime or Skype when we can’t be together especially over the holidays but it gets hard because my kids are such goofballs and won’t really allow a peaceful video chat call to happen.

Also, what do you get for the woman who has everything? Aside from flying to CT to be with her, which I wish I could do more often, I thought a slideshow of favorite memories would be a lovely gift. It has already been a lovely gift for me, from Slideshows by Bari:

Bari’s turnaround time is amazing. This slideshow above has just over 50 photos in it – some that she scanned for me and some that I already had as digital files. She’ll also incorporate video clips if you have them. Her rate is usually $2 per photo, and I would say it’s totally worth it. Yes, your 9-year-old can probably make a slideshow with iPhoto, but it won’t get it done quickly (trust me) and with as much professionalism and skill as slideshows by Bari.
