For new mothers, or mothers who are new in town, parenting at home as a full-time job can be a lonely, isolating experience. The best way to find new friends who are living the same life and can at least commiserate is to join a club or group of other new, or new-to-town moms.

Lucky for all of us, our area has a chapter of MOMS Club International.

MOMS Club is an international organization created for all at-home mothers. This club is a great way to meet other moms who share your interests and concerns. There are many enriching activities offered for you and your children. We offer: Weekly age-appropriate play groups, monthly Mom’s Night Out, monthly field trips, community service, holiday celebrations, and much, much more.

MOMS Club of Westlake Village serves the areas of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, and Oak Park. Everyone is free to attend two meetings before officially joining. Membership fee is $30 per year. If you are interested in joining MOMS Club, please email Hyacinth Kearney at hpkearney5@gmail.com.

This month, MOMS Club of Westlake Village is holding their first annual diaper drive as a service project. During the month of May, they are collecting diapers (larger sizes most needed) and wipes – you can contact me to find out where to drop them off. Or, you can meet the MOMS Club members tonight at their wine-tasting fundraiser party at J. Hamilton Wines in Westlake Village – $25 per person includes a tasting of six wines, plus appetizers. Proceeds will benefit Help a Mother Out, an organization that collects diapers and funds to purchase diapers for underserved families in the Los Angeles area.

Run to Remember Pat Tillman, April 13 at the Rose Bowl

Remember Pat Tillman? The football player who quit a promising sports career to join the military and fight for his country, and then got killed?

Well, every year the Pat Tillman Foundation puts on an event to make sure people remember. Pat’s Run takes place at ASU but if you can’t go to Arizona that weekend, you can take part in a variety of Shadow Runs happening all over the place. For us in Southern California, the Shadow Run is NEXT SATURDAY, April 13 at the beautiful Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Saturday, April 13, 2013 – (the website says it’s “on or around April 20th” but once you click “register” it will say the 13th.)

Registration: 8:15 am

Shadow Run/Walk Begins: 9:00 am

Picnic & Presentation: Immediately following

You may run a 4.2 mile course or walk 3 miles around the Rose Bowl, finishing at Brookside Golf Course Club House with a post-race picnic and gathering. This event is open to anyone. They are also partnering with Operation Gratitude to create care packages and write postcards to our servicemen and women.

I’m pretty vocal about how much I hate running, but I would definitely go to this event to walk around the Rose Bowl.

With more than 1,700 Veterans currently enrolled, Arizona State University online is a proud sponsor of the Pat Tillman Foundation Shadow Runs throughout the country. With the legacy of a hero, scholar, and student athlete behind this annual event, ASU online is excited to partner in hosting the run in his memory to encourage participation of military personnel and Vets and families to come out and enjoy the day. There is a 20% discount for military members – just use the code PRS13ASUOM (limited number, first come first served).

There are also 10 discount registration codes for civilians,  20% off the cost of registration for those who register first, either in SD or LA: PRS13MM

This is a sponsored post by me on behalf of ASU Online.

Welcome to Agoura Hills Mom! Save yourself a click –subscribe to Agoura Hills Mom by email so you don’t miss anything new!

Our elementary school held a Casino Night fundraiser last weekend, and included a brilliant sponsorship offer – the perfect opportunity for the first local promotion of Agoura Hills Mom.  Behold, the Agoura Hills Mom Bikini Martini:

1 fl oz of Malibu Rum
1 fl oz of Vodka
2 fl oz’s of Pineapple Juice

Nothing groundbreaking here, and served in plastic cups (guess the parents are prone to getting cuh-razy on the dance floor, wouldn’t want too much glass around!) but the lovely little table tents, announcement, and good-sport bartender were enough to get the site’s name out there.
Plus, what a perfect partnership, no?  If I had more input, I would have sponsored a Cosmo, but hey, it was my first time, and the organizers did a great job.

The event was held at this week’s AHM darling, Lindero Country Club, which is re-opening its restaurant as The Sage Room pretty soon.  We’ve only lived here two years, and this will be the second re-opening of the spot.  Here’s hoping the second time’s the charm.
