Steeped Coffee Single-Serve Bags

As long as I have been alive, my mother has been an avid coffee drinker. I remember when instant coffee bags were invented – they’re like tea bags, but with coffee in them, and they are supposed to taste better than instant coffee crystals that you just stir into hot water, because there is some brewing involved. It seems like a good idea for when you are out of coffee for your drip machine or French press, or for camping, but honestly the brands she has used in the past have never worked for me. I like my coffee medium-strength and the best I could ever get out of the instant bags has been…not great.

I tried Steeped Coffee last fall before the holiday season began, in advance of my mom’s annual Thanksgiving visit. I had dreams of introducing her to a new brand that would blow her mind, and I also had high hopes of identifying a better backup for my own coffee habit. This is what grabbed me about the brand:

…each Steeped Pack contains hand-roasted, ethically-sourced, Direct Trade coffee that’s precision ground to showcase the distinctive flavor profile of every crafted blend.

The sample pack contains Light, Medium, Dark, Extra Dark, and Decaf, and includes instructions on how to brew the coffee for maximum flavor. I settled down to try it…

It is tasty!

No sweat. If you follow the directions and use really hot water, the flavor is strong and rich. The true test was my mother, though. When she visited I gave her the Steeped Coffee bags and she loves them. However, she left them behind. Good thing I can just order them and send them to her. The company even offers a monthly subscription box. They offer fun little accessories, too.

Rumor Confirmed: Dunkin’ Donuts Coming to Westlake Village

Neighbors, it is confirmed. Dunkin’ Donuts is coming to Westlake Village!

I might have a tear of joy in my eye as I type this.

Coming soon!

I received a wonderful voice mail message today from a rep at CBRE, the property management company for North Ranch Gateway, otherwise referred to as the TJ Maxx plaza at Thousand Oaks and Lindero Canyon. We’ve all seen the construction and facelift that plaza is getting. My kids remark on it every day as we drive past, and it’s a source of curiosity for everyone in town.

The rep confirmed that Dunkin’ Donuts will occupy part of the building that once housed Barbecues Galore. (The other part will be a Bank of America.)

Vacancies are filling up at North Ranch Gateway!

The rep also said that a nail salon and a Brazilian grill will be moving into the plaza, and that they’re in talks with some other restaurants as well. Their targeted timeline is to have these businesses open and ready for business by the end of the year or early in 2017. Here is how I feel about this:

I was pretty excited about finally making my pilgrimage to the Santa Monica @DunkinDonuts. #donuts

Stay tuned for more news and information as we get closer to this glorious day. (This post is brought to you only by my lifelong love of their coffee and glazed donuts.)

Hallelujah, Dunkin’ Donuts Is Here

Hot and Iced CoffeeOkay, not here, here. But close. The first LA-area Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to open at 5AM on September 2 in Santa Monica.

As part of the grand opening celebration, the first 100 people in line will receive a Dunkin’ Donuts tote bag filled with special items and the first person in line will be rewarded with free coffee for one year.

That is actually the kind of thing that the pre-child me would consider standing in line for. As for me now, well, even a new DD in town isn’t enough for me to leave the Bubble on a Tuesday morning (and finding parking there, GAWD) just to get some coffee. (And donuts. People keep talking about the donuts but true Dunkin’ lovers know what’s really important.)

Yeah yeah. Those are tasty, too.

Another cool thing about this opening is that they are giving $5,000 to the LA Food Bank. What a great way to celebrate.

So, anyway. In other news, Baskin Robbins is selling one-scoop ice cream cones for $1.31 on Sunday August 31. Because…heatwave and holiday weekend. Or…ice cream. Nuff said.
